Tornado warning
Yesterday, we had a tornado warning. The news said we were directly in the path, and it was coming in 15 minutes. So, I got some water jugs and my phone and headed for the basement with all the dogs. Jane gets upset sometimes during storms. She paws at me, as if I could makeContinue reading “Tornado warning”
SPECIFIC ideas for helping dogs who are afraid of fireworks and thunderstorms
We’ve all heard ideas about turning on the radio and giving our dogs tranquilizers when they are showing anxiety during thunderstorms or fireworks. Sometimes these ideas work just fine. Because I’ve heard from lots of people about their dogs getting upset lately, here’s some fine tuning of those ideas and some additional ones that mightContinue reading “SPECIFIC ideas for helping dogs who are afraid of fireworks and thunderstorms”
Sitting at home with Covid
The older dogs are trying to entertain me while I am sick with Covid, See See is in heat, I’m missing a 4 day dog show weekend, and the Supreme Court just overturned Roe v. Wade. Not listed in order of importance. I’ve been watching the Jan 6 hearings, and I can’t help but thinkContinue reading “Sitting at home with Covid”

I got him from a breeder in Michigan, and he had the best temperament and trainability of any dog I have ever known. Wally is theContinue reading “Wally”

She must be 2 years old in order to get certified by OFA, greatly reducing the likelihood of having puppies with bad hips or elbows. The household is in upheaval. Having 3 intactContinue reading “See See is in heat again, rescuing, and the importance of spaying and neutering!”
VKC dog class, last night
It was a small class because the Fishersville shows are this weekend, and people are bathing, grooming, and loading up. I’ve got See See, Liz has Clyde, and Ashley has her dog. Thank you Michael for shooting the video!
The T pattern in conformation at Virginia Kennel Club class
The T pattern is rarely seen anymore in the AKC ring. But, ya gotta be prepared for anything the judge throws at ya. Thank you Bob, for “judging” this nearly all GSD class, even though you are a sporting dog judge. Thank you Michael, for shooting the video.
GSDs enjoying the futon
Johnny, Jane, Winston, and Nellie all like to chill out on the futon. It’s been so hot, they like to lay around in the air conditioning. They take turns on the futon.
Grandma’s China cabinet, Dad’s duck, Mom’s dishes, and playful puppies
My grandmother lived near Birch River, WV, and a man from the area built the cabinet from local cherry wood for her. My father killed the duck when he was a boy in Putnam County, WV. He never killed anything again. It was preserved by his taxidermist uncle. My mom collected vintage Fiestaware. Some ofContinue reading “Grandma’s China cabinet, Dad’s duck, Mom’s dishes, and playful puppies”
