The puppies all got to go outside for the first time today. Stan helped put up the temporary enclosure.
Daphne is recovering from her surgery yesterday to close the wound from where she was bitten by the brown recluse spider. The wound was very large, and Dr Miller had to place a drain in it so it would heal properly. The drain comes out on Tuesday. Daphne feels much better. She is still on antibiotics.
Daphne is still attached to her puppies and very much wants to be with them. Today she was out in the yard when the puppies were in the temporary enclosure, and she laid right next to them with just the little fence between them, as close as she possibly could. I held each one for her to smell and lick. I had to carry them out first, one by one, and she was frantic until she was allowed to go out and see them. It’s such a shame that her motherly instincts are going to waste as she heals from her wound.
